Wood, bamboo? brown salt and pepper mill made in Japan - $10 - (Bath, NH)

The outside doesn't feel like wood because of the finish on it. The bottom of the mill is where you can tell it's some kind of wood, I'm thinking bamboo but, I don't know. Neither of these open, there's a sliding slot on the top where you would fill and empty, unusual. There is some corrosion on the salt as shown in photo. I did not try to remove it. Each is 4" not including the grinder top. Bottom has a 1 1/2" diameter
