Hunleth Music Co., 514-516 Locust St., The Largest Music House in St. Louis. Vintage, original circa the 1940s. Thick cardboard catalog/brochure measures 8 1/2 x 11 1/2 inches. Numbers four pages including both covers. Touts all types of musical instruments and wares: trumpets, trombones, saxophones, French horns, violins and bows, piano accordions, clarinets, drums, sheet music, victrolas, records, radios, et al. Complete, very good condition, never used. Found in storage. The Hunleth Music Co. was founded by Frank J. Hunleth in 1901 and closed its doors in 1974. Hunleth was one of the largest music supply stores in the Midwest, boasting of five floors of music-related merchandise. Well-known musicians, such as Rudolph Ganz, Fritz Kreisler, Jascha Heifetz, Yehudi Menuhim and Mischa Elman, often gathered at Hunleth. The store also sold concert tickets for acts like Count Basie and Billy May at St. Louis' own Casa-Loma Ballroom. This item comes directly from the estate of Charles "Chaw" Mank Jr. (1902-1985), noted songwriter, author, bandleader, record producer, sheet music publisher, psychic, radio personality, silent movie theater organist, world champion pen pal, inveterate collector and Hollywood/music fan club pioneer.
