8" Lapis Lazuli Stone - Hand Carved - Chinese Sculpture - Kuan Lin - Repaired - $200 - (Richmond, VA)
This statue of Kuan Lin is hand carved of natural lapis lazuli-- a deep blue, semi-precious opaque gemstone prized since antiquity for its intense color. Ancient China obtained lapis lazuli from Afghanistan through the Silk Road trade and it has long been favored by carvers for its relative softness. Here, Kuan Lin, Goddess of Mercy and Compassion, is carrying a basket of flowers on a pole and holding a flower in one hand. The rich blue lapis lazuli is accented with white veins of calcite, echoing the sway of her figure. 7" high stone carving/ 8" high on its wooden base 5" wide/ 5.75" wide on base condition: Long ago, Kuan Lin must have fallen from her stand, breaking her pole and her neck. The repair was well done, but it is visible It also appears that the tip of the pole which she holds in her hand also broke off. My price reflects this imperfection, but I will also consider reasonable offers. 1 lb. 11 oz.
