Pre-Columbian Chimu Shawl Textile from Peru in Display Case - $200 - (Prescott, AZ)

This shawl once belonged to a woman weaver from the Chimu Civilization of Peru, and dates between 900 A.D. to 1500 A.D.The Chimu Civilization was the largest civilization to thrive in Peru, just before the Inca came to power around 1500 A.D. This ancient textile was uncovered near Chimbote in the early 1960's, beside weaving tools, and other textiles. The colors are vivid after so many centuries, and the plaid design and tight weave of the wool speaks volumes of the artistry of these people. The textile is beautifully encased within a lucite and wood display case, and is in remarkable condition, encased just as it was found. The wool used to weave this shawl is likely a mixture of spun Alpaca fur and cotton. The shawl display case measures 14" x 11" and is just under 1/2" thick.
