Mallet Charming early 18th century copper engraved map, with pleasing full hand color. Near miniature in format. Note the ambiguous shape given to Australia, with new Guinea unclarified as if it is attached or not. A huge speculative outline is given for a southern continent- modern day Antarctica. Africa & Asia shown in their entire outline forms, abreviated and truncated. The image has a near folk-art feel, a style of cartographic image quite unique to this time in history.
