1749 Authentic Map "Carte de L'Ancien Continent" Histoire Naturelle $195 - $195 - (Nantucket, MA)
What a super find! This is an authentic map done in 1749 of the continent of Africa and a good part of Asia. This was drawn by Robert de Vaugondy,Senior, son of the Geographer to the King. This measures 8x10" and was found folded up as part of a series of 9 volumes entitled Histoire Naturelle, Generale et particuliere published in 1749. This was Mar #1 on page 204. I doubt you will find an authentic map from the mid 1700s in great condition at close to my price1700s maps go for over $1,000 often here. I'm only asking $195, a reduction of $80 on 3/4, when 1700s map usually sell for over $1,000. This collection belonged to the Earl of Eglintoune and has his identity paper on each volume.I am divesting of my treasures along with the remaining inventory of antiques and fine jewelry store which I started in 1974 when I also bought 109 Orange Street and established The Stumble Inne, becoming the youngest innkeeper in the country. I retired from retail in 2015 and now it is time to clear out the treasures gathered over four decades.
