It is embossed J. CAIRNS in a straight line on the front. The back is embossed ST LOUIS Mo in two straight lines. It has FRL embossed below ST. It is iron pontiled although no iron remains. It has an open bubble on the front but fairly light case wear. John Cairns was one of the earliest soda bottlers in St. Louis starting in 1850. He also opened up a branch in Keokuk Iowa during the late 1850s after his daughter married Francis Van Haren. Cairns retired to Hannibal Missouri sometime in the early 1880 era.
