Antiq William Ridgway PERSIAN Brown Transferware Pearlware 9" Plate ca 1830s #5 - $19 - (Tecumseh, MI)

Beautiful old antique brown transferware plate. It was made in the Staffordshire region of England by William Ridgway Potteries, in the Persian pattern. The plate measures approximately 9-1/8" in diameter. It features scalloped edges and a border covered in vines and detailed floral motifs. It has a lakeside scene and requiem overflowing with flowers in the center. It is marked on the back as shown with an urn and beehive over Persian and WR. According to Jeffrey B. Snyder's Book, Romantic Staffordshire Ceramics, page 149, this mark was used by William Ridgway between 1830 and 1834. It is in exceptionally fine antique condition considering the age. No cracks, chips or repairs. Expect some light utensil marks in the center that show when held to the light just so and some light crazing. There is some expected wear to the glaze on the outermost edges.
