For sale is a gorgeous transferware plate in the 'Castello' pattern by Wallis Gimson & Co of Lane Delph Pottery in Fenton, Staffordshire, England. This pattern dates to between 1882 and 1890. The pattern consists of a river, which bisects the scene, cascading over the rocks in the foreground. Three small figures stand on the right bank near the cascade. On both the left bank and right bank of the river are castles (the left closer than the right) near an bridge that spans the river. In the background are distant buildings and mountains, with clouds above. This central scene is bordered by six identical scenic reserves showing a castle amongst trees. Interspersing these reserves are intertwining scrolls.This plate measures 9 inches in diameter and is in excellent condition, with no chips, cracks, crazing, discoloration, or repairs.
