California is shown at the end of Baja Peninsula. Ortelius' 1564 wall map of the world, w/ information derived from the explorations of Marco Polo (cited in several text blocks) and from Portuguese missionaries in Japan. Depicts 2 large hand colored cartouches, sailing ships, flying fish, vignettes and decorative border. See close up photos for texture.Condition: Overall condition very good. Old color. Age toning - noted on the central lower portion - does not impact printed area. Some yellowing on upper right decorative border. Frame shows minor nicks on edge and corners.Measures approx: Frame: 22 3/4" x 18" / Print image: 18 1/2" x 13 3/4" I've seen these on line in galleries ranging from $2400 - $5000.00 - this one seems to be comparable to the better quality ones.
