Condition: The rods have been made from new material. The clamps are in used condition, but they move without friction like a new clamp (i.e. the ball bears are in excellent condition). The vernier is good for 1/10 of a degree. The clamps have been modified -- their table clamps have been removed, machined flat, drilled so they can be screwed down to the wooden board or table top. Hooke's Law for torsion can be verified, the factors which influence the shearing strain of an elastic material can be observed and beginning students can measure the coefficient of rigidity with good precision using this apparatus. With normal care it will last indefinitely. The supporting the weights can be placed either to the left, as shown, or to the right, whichever fits local space and lighting conditions best. It is ball-bearing mounted to eliminate frictional sticking and contains a T-head set screw which clamps the rod. The rod bushings are 3/4" in diameter and are permanently attached to the ends of the rods by silver solder. The 15 cm diameter wheel can be read to 0.1 degree by it vernier. A strong steel ribbon hooks to the rim, passing part way around the flat edge of the wheel to support the weights via a hook. To used this apparatus the buyer will need to supply a weight set that goes up to 2 kg (the rods have been tested to 2200 grams). This includes a wheel-support clamp and a fixed-end clamp have been modified (a screw clamps have been removed and drilled so they can be screwed to the wooden board or table top). The three rods are 1 meter between rod bushings. The two 6061 aluminum rods are 1/4" and 5/16" in diameter; the brass rod is 1/4" in diameter. No international or overseas sales.
