ANTIQUE Indian Wedding Shutters, Painted Wood Green Red w Man and Woman 18th C - $615 - (Paoli, PA)

Two narrow, painted wood and iron shutters from India. Possibly from Jaipur, Rajasthan in India in the late 18th or early 19th centuries. Green and red painted shutters are intricately painted with a man and a woman on opposing shutters in individual carved arches with gold paint and etched brass or copper embellishments. Top, bottom, and back are painted red. They lock with an iron latch and hang on four posts on the far corners.Shutters were for a rather narrow window with an arch. These shutters could have been painted in celebration of a new marriage. It is unusual to see shutters in this shape on the market at this time. We found these shutters while in Belgium. In very good condition with some minor wear and chips from age and use. Latch still works. Posts to hold the window in place appear sturdy.Measures 33 1/2 x 14 5/8 x 3 inches. Three inches depth includes the widest point where the shutters overlap. Shutters are otherwise about 1.5 to 2 inches thick. Weighs 17 lbs 14 oz.
