Large Antique Lamp Wall Sconce Brass Ship Light Lantern Style, Biddle Gaumer PA - $450 - (Buffalo, NY)
Extremely well made large Antique electric wall sconce light. Made by Biddle - Gaumer of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Biddle & Gaumer were early lighting manufacturers, gas, oil, electric, their lamps are scarce today. Ship lantern or ship light style. Made entirely of brass, all components, all hardware with the exception of the round wall sconce plate, that is also non ferrous but I believe it is copper. The socket is porcelain, brass & copper. Curved glass lens is nice and clean, no damage, glass is wavy, It's old. Rippled inner light reflector behind bulb is in nice shape. It's all intact, every surface was gently cleaned with regard to patina. Some loss of black finish is apparent in some areas, brass exposed beneath, shown in pics. New modern braided black cloth covered wire was installed, tested safe functioning lamp ready to use light. Install the heavy cast brass mount bracket to the wall then align the rear tabs & drop into place. There is a small screw & nut at the bottom rear that acts a lock so that the lantern can't be accidently bumped upwards and then loose from the wall bracket. The screw and nut are steel and I don't believe that they are original but they serve the job well. A small brass screw and nut could be easily obtained if so desired, I will send 1 along if I have 1. The overall height is 17", width is 7", bottom hole is about 4" opening. The round rear sconce plate is 6". I did not weigh it but it is quite hefty for a brass lamp, about 7 - 10lbs. The last pic shows a 12oz soda can next to the lamp, size comparison only, soda can is not included. The bulb is not included, for display purposes only. Please see all pics.
