Set of 5 LITTLE WOMEN Dolls by Wendy Lawton - $125 - (Spokane, WA)
This is a wonderful set of all five “Little Women” dolls by Wendy Lawton for Ashton-Drake Galleries. They were inspired by the book “Little Women” and its sequels, by Louisa May Alcott. Each doll is a limited edition which ended forever in 1995, at which time the molds were smashed so no more could ever be poured. The dolls have porcelain heads, chest plates, hands and lower legs. The rest of their bodies are firmly stuffed cloth with armature in the arms and legs, so they’re slightly posable. They have wonderfully painted faces (all different), great hairstyles (again, all different), and they’re beautifully costumed. Jo is the tallest of the group; she stands about 15” tall. Each doll holds something that reflects her personality: Meg is displayed sitting on a tuffet doing embroidery. Jo holds a copy of “Pilgrim’s Progress”. Beth holds some sheet music and Amy sits on the floor with her sketchbook. Marmee is holding a shopping basket and a letter from Mr. March, who, if I recall correctly, was away at war. All five dolls are in excellent condition. They’ve never been undressed or had their hairstyles changed. They’ve never been handled by a child. I’ve always had them displayed in our non-smoking home. The auction includes the certificate of authenticity for each of the dolls. It also includes the stands for Marmee, Jo and Beth, as well as Meg’s tuffet. “Little Women” is one of my all-time favorite books, and I love these dolls too! The only reason I’m selling them is because we recently moved to a smaller home and, sadly, I simply have nowhere to display them. They’ll be a great addition to your collection!
